Collection 005 for REVERVE, a women's activewear label from Dubai. Twelve shots, twenty-five seconds, every piece taken from the collection itself.

Before a single frame, we spent time with the collection to understand how it feels to wear: confident, sculpted, unhurried. The film follows that mood across Dubai, from gardens and still water to the skyline in the distance.

Speculative films

Film 01 — Fragrance

Odorama Cities

Nine shots. Thirty-one seconds. The product appears once, at the end, for two.

  1. Cold stone in a stairwell before the lights come on
  2. Diesel from a bus that just pulled away
  3. Rain on pavement that was hot ten minutes ago
  4. Iron railings after rain
  5. Chlorine still in my hair on the walk home
  6. Pine sap in August
  7. My grandmother's hallway closet
  8. My brother's room after he moved out
  9. The bottle

The perfume was built from an open call. Six hundred people were asked what their country smelled like, and their answers were condensed into one fragrance.

So the film shows the answers, not the perfume. Eight unrelated images, each one a smell you recognise without being told. Three are deliberately unpleasant, because a scent memory that is only ever beautiful reads as a lie.

Film 02 — Coffee

First Crack

Nine shots. Twenty-seven seconds. The loudest moment is a black frame.

  1. Green beans, cold, on steel
  2. Inside the drum, first heat
  3. Colour turning, green to straw
  4. Chaff lifting through the light
  5. First crack — black frame, sound only
  6. The bean, split open
  7. Oils reaching the surface
  8. The pour into the cooling tray
  9. The bag

A green coffee bean tastes of nothing. Twelve minutes at 200°C makes it the most complex flavour compound in commercial food, and roasters navigate that almost entirely by ear.

At around 196°C the moisture inside flashes to steam and the structure fails. That pop is called first crack, and where a roaster stops after it is the whole craft.

Film 03 — Lifestyle

Shoreline

A single held shot. Evening light, linen, and the sea doing the moving.

Not every film needs nine shots. Some need one that holds.
